Personal Profile - John Hannon

In 2003 John left his full-time job with Merrill Lynch Investment Managers in the City of London having built a successful career leading projects and programmes within the financial sector. As well as Merrill Lynch John worked for several large multinational organisations including Olivetti, McDonnell Douglas, Robert Fleming (since acquired by JP Morgan) and Barings. Much of his experience was in delivering solutions based on understanding client needs to increase personal and organisational effectiveness. John has led teams of people with responsibility for his own and his people’s personal development.
Whilst his job more than met his material needs he no longer felt that full-time employment met his needs for autonomy, authenticity and personal fulfilment. In particular he wanted to find ways to use his lifelong interest in leadership and personal development for professional purposes.
Having decided to develop a new career as a coach he started his training with a Diploma in Coaching from Management Futures. He then deepened his understanding and practice as a coach by studying for a Masters in Professional Coaching run by i-coach academy and accredited by Middlesex University.
John’s Masters programme was an EMCC accredited award at Masters Level and he is also certified by the ICF as an ACC (Associate Certified Coach). He presented the results of his master’s level research project into the significance for executive coaching clients of having a clearly articulated professional purpose at the 2006 European ICF conference. He has published articles on learning and coaching including in Coaching at Work magazine and he has also worked with i-coach academy facilitating the learning and development of coaches.
Since 2003 John has had a portfolio career that includes working as a professional executive coach, training and consultancy. In addition to working with corporate clients, John also coaches independent professionals including other coaches.
